At Pikes Peak Paragliding, our goal is to train highly competent pilots. Ted Smith is a certified by the United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association(USHPA). He is dedicated to making sure that you have a safe and fun time in your training which will hopefully lead to a long, safe, and fun flying career.
There are two levels of solo pilot instruction we offer at Pikes Peak: P1and P2. The P1, is really an instroductory training, designed to help a new pilot become familiar with the basic skills and experience of solo flying. It requires ground school training and 4 independent flights supervised by an instructor. The P1 rating is awared at the completion of a written exam to test basic knowledge of aviation.
The P2 training is really designed to train an individual into a competent solo pilot. At the conclusion of P2 training, an individual will have the knowledge and skills required to fly as an independent solo pilot. This requires demonstrable knowledge about the weather, the ability to assess flying conditions of the day, take an honest inventory of personal abilities, and the physical skills required to safely operate a paraglider through all phases of flight; take-off, flying, and landing.
The P2 training requires ground school, whcih teaches basics about aviation, weather, and flying regulations. It also requires a minumum of 25 supervised flights in which the student will be required to demonstrate speific piloting skills. The P2 Novice Pilot rating is awared when all requirements set forth by USHPA have been met to the instructor's satisfaction.
Training rates are as follows:
P1 Training: $200 (This includes a copy of the book , "The Art of Paragliding")
P2 Training: $1000 (This includes a copy of the book, "The Art of Paragliding," a Sup'Air Cockpit Light, and a Baofeng 2-way radio.)
During instruction of both P1 and P2 training, all equipment required will be supplied by Pikes Peak Paragliding, LLC.
The student will need to supply their own Helmet, Gloves, and Eye Protection.
